According to trade sources the films that took positions for the last week withNanban leading the track followed byVettai, Mounaguru and Kollaikaran in the next positions.   Nanban starring Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj, Sathyan, Ileana is a perfect family entertainer and remake of 2010 bollywood blockbuster '3 idiots'. The Tamil version is directed by Shankar the megamind with music by Harris Jeyaraj.The film had a unique star cast and that's the secret of success says trade analysts.   Vettai which got released one day next to Nanban also got a good opening because of the star cast like Madhavan, Arya, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul. The film is directed by Lingusamywho is known for his action oriented masala films. The film is said to be doing good buisness next to Nanban. Vijay and the whole team recently celebrated the success of Nanban by organising a party within the team's circle. Director Shankar, Sathyaraj, Sathyan. Vijay's Nanban a remake of Bollywood blockbuster '3 idiots', which is got positive talk all over and also getting rave reviews from all sides and breaking record collections.   But now the problem raised in the film few words like Aandi , Pandaram mentioned the cast names hurt the particular scheduled cast peoples.and also the pari puri kakush kari rubbish words, we will protest and continue fasting in front of theaters".   The Most Backward Classes Association sending a notice to the Producers' Council Chairman SA Chandrasekar, director Shankar and the Censor Board seeking deletion of the words Aandi and Pandaram.

  Normally Shankar's movies are ought to make huge buzz in Telugu irrespective of the hero. But for  Snehithudu , the buzz is almost invisible. People aren't much interested in this movie it seems. Advance bookings are weak and it indicates that Snehithudu  might take slow start at the box office. Main reason for this disinterest in Telugu audience is 3 Idiots is a very big hit in AP and most of them have seen it. Vijay is not a crowd pulling star here and the audio is not up to the mark. Shankar doing a remake isn't exciting for Telugu audience as they want to see original films from the star filmmaker. In Tamil, Vijay's star power coupled with Shankar factor has worked for Nanban to draw huge collections in the first week.  Snehithudu  movie will have to fall back on Ileana to pull the masses to the theaters.  

Vijay's Shankar directed Nanban has been declared a super hit by the trade . As per trade sources the film has grossed approximately Rs 40 Crore in its first week (Jan 12 to 19). In Tamil Nadu it recorded almost 95 % opening in its first four days, which is extraordinary by any yardstick. The film opened in nearly 625 screens in Tamil Nadu in its first two days (Jan 12 &13) without any opposition . Nanban made merry and it helped the film to get the second biggest opening after Enthiran. By Pongal day, the film became steady at the box-office and the word-of-mouth started working to its advantage . Says Asick Meera of Mariyam Pictures who purchased the TK area: "Nanban is running packed houses in 33 release stations and there is no drop so far.
