VIjay films banned in theaters

In a general body meeting held by the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association yesterday, it was decided that the theatre owners would not extend support to any of the star hero Vijay's films until he compensates for the losses incurred by them for screening Kuruvi, Vettaikaran, Azhagiya Thamizh Magan, Villu and Sura. All these films did not do well as expected and hence the theatres suffered huge losses. Earlier, they had demanded that Vijay pay back 35 percent of the amount. This was brought to the actor's notice and he had said that he would announce a compensation package soon but failed to do so. Following this, the Theatre Owners have decided that they would not screen Vijay films.

Kaavalkaran becomes Kaaval Kadhal

The title of Vijay’s forthcoming film, which is a remake of Malayalam hit ‘Bodyguard’, is not ‘Kaavalkaran’ as guessed by many. The movie directed by Siddique has been named ‘Kaaval Kaadhal’. And this has been confirmed by no lesser person than Asin, who is the heroine of the film. “A major portion of ‘Kaaval Kaadhal’ has been shot. I am happy about the shaping up of the movie,” she said. The actress, who is making a reentry into south Indian cinema with this 51st film of Vijay, added: “Siddique is a highly respected director and Vijay is a top hero. Working with them is no doubt a delight.” Meanwhile, it is said that the muhurat of the actor’s next project, tentatively titled ‘Velayudham’, will be held at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium on July 15. “Around 10,000 Vijay fans are expected to attend the mega event,” sources say. Produced by Aascar Ravichandran, ‘Velayudham’ will be directed by ‘Jayam’ Raja.

Suriya, Vijay Take Kamal And Rajni’s Place

Audio release of the Pandiraj directed Vamsam was held today in Sathyam cinemas, Chennai. Vamsam serves as the launch pad of Arulnidhi, the latest Gen Y entrant to Tamil cinema from the Kalaignar family. The event saw an impressive turn out of VVIPs from the State and Central Ministries and celebrities from the K town. CM Karunanidhi chaired the event and released the first audio to Suriya and Vijay. Interestingly, Suriya and Vijay shared the dais with the CM thus unwittingly replacing the age old custom of the two kingpins of Tamil cinema Rajinikanth and Kamalhassan sharing the podium with him in film events. The kingpins both were not present at the event. Suriya, who addressed the gathering, mentioned that he sees potential in Arulnidhi. “After seeing the songs and the trailer, I’m assured that Arulnidhi has what it takes to be a hero,” he said. Suriya also praised the CM on his abilities at his ripe age to pen screenplays. Vijay’s address was peppered with his a...

Vijay-Asin together again

Asin, who moved to Bollywood in 2008, is likely to make a comeback to Tamil cinema this year. She has reportedly been signed for the Vijay's movie which is the remake of Malayalam hit 'Bodyguard' starring Dileep and Nayantara. Sivaraju Venkatraju, who last made 'Priymanavale' with Vijay in 2000 will produce this new film. Siddique who directed the original will direct the Tamil version also. Siddique and Vijay combination earlier rocked in the comedy riot ‘Friends’. For Asin this film is a sort of comeback to Tamil. After her first Hindi film ‘Ghajini’ with Aamir Khan becoming super hit, her next film ‘London Dreams’ with Salman Khan bombed. So she is desperate to keep her top star status and image intact. But of course Asin never said she will not do a Tamil film after moving to Bollywood. Asin and Vijay pair was very successful with films like 'Pokkiri' and 'Sivakasi' doing wonders at the box office. Meanwhile, Vijay's 50th film 'Sura'...

Raj Kiran and Roja in Kavalkaran

The Vijay-Asin starrer Kavalkaran went on floors recently and shooting is going on in full swing in Karaikudi region in Tamil Nadu. Director Siddique has roped in several well-established actors and actresses to play important roles in the film. Earlier, Raj Kiran was signed up to play Asin’s dad in the film. The news now is that Roja will pair up with Raj Kiran to play the leading lady’s mom. This means, Raj Kiran and Roja will be Vijay’s parents-in-law in Kavalkaran.

Kaavalkaran title changed to Kaavalan

Vijay’s new film with Siddique has gone for a title change for the third time. When the film started had the MGR film title ‘Kaavalkaran’ hoping to cash in on the ever green popularity of MGR films. But when the original producers of the MGR movie Sathya Movies objected, the title was changed to ‘Kaaval Kaadhal’. But the second title did not find encouraging reactions from even among Vijay fans. So now the title has been again changed to ‘Kaavalan’. Another major development with the film according to sources is that director Shakthi Chidambaram has purchased the film lock stock and barrel including its negative rights. This sudden development has taken many by surprise. When most of the Tamil community is up in arms against the film because of Asin and the overseas business is in threat, Shakthi Chidambaram’s move is being viewed with mixed reaction.
