Ilayathalapathy Vijay is in a fix. A crucial meeting, of Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association (TTOA) was held in Chennai today (May 28). TTOA has threatened to issue a ‘Red Card’ against the star if he does not compensate them for the colossal failure of Sura as they could not recover the money that they had paid as MG for the film. Says R. Paneerselvam, Secretary, TTOA: “We have tried to get an appointment with Vijay, but he could not be reached. All his recent films including Sura and Vettaikaran were failures and we lost heavily. The continued poor performance of his films has actually forced us to convene an emergency meeting. We are demanding that he compensate us with atleast 35 percent of our losses. We are hoping Vijay understands our difficulties and helps us out." Two lucky ladies are going to play the female lead roles in Vijay’s upcoming film Velayudham but the names are not decided yet. There is buzz that three hotties Genelia D’Souza, Hansika Motwani and Ileana have been lined up to play the roles. With Vijay’s previous films labelled as box office disasters, the actor has rigidly decided to change his course now. His forthcoming films wouldn’t follow on the same lines with him uttering punch dialogues, conveying his ideologies and becoming the saviour of the masses. Instead, they will be much like his yesteryear commercial entertainers Ghilli, Youth and Badri. On Sunday, Hansika Motwani flew down to Chennai from Mumbai to do a photo shoot with the star at a studio in Saligramam, for producer Aascar Ravichandran’s Jayam Raja directed Velayutham. The film is rumoured to be a remake of Nagarjuna ’s Telugu hit Azad (released way back in 2000), which was inspired from Amitabh Bachchan’s 1989 flop Main Azad Hoon, which was in turn a carbon copy of Frank Capra’s 1941 classic Meet John Doe! Vijay will have two heroines — Genelia and Hansika — in the film and will play a fictitious ‘man of the masses’ created by a female journalist. For the first time ever, Harris Jayaraj will provide music for this movie. The producer of Velayutham, Aascar Ravichandran, is veteran producer and distributor who controls more than 30 screens in NSC area, and has a proven track record with hits like Anniyan and Dasavatharam. Noted actor-director Thyagarajan played Nayan’s father in the Malayalam smash hit film Bodyguard. When director Siddique, who is directing the Tamil version of this film with Vijay in the lead, wanted Thyagarajan to play the same role but he refused it. Enquiries in Kollywood revealed that Thyagarajan is busy directing and producing Ponnar Shankar with his son Prashanth playing the lead role and hence decided not to take up the offer. Eventually, the role was bagged by Raj Kiran, who plays Asin’s dad in Kaavalkaran.

Kaavalkaran is the remake of Malayalam hit Bodyguard starring Dileep and Nayantara. Siddique (of Friends fame), who directed the original, is also directing the Tamil version. Bodyguard has a plot with plenty of comedy and action. The film also brings back Asin to Kollywood after a gap. “I will also be directing the Hindi version of Bodyguard with Salman Khan in the lead and his company is also producing it,” the director revealed.

The Vijay-Asin starrer, directed by Siddique and tentatively titled Kavalkaran, has started its second schedule at VIT campus in Vellore from May 16. The film is a remake of the director’s Bodyguard in Malayalam, and nearly 50 percent of the shoot is happening in a college campus. As per the story Raj Kiran a big businessman appoints Vijay as a bodyguard for his college going daughter played by Asin. The film is basically a love story, and director Siddique keeping in mind Vijay’s mass hero image has made some minor changes to his original version. The buzz is that Vijay is trying to work out a new romantic image with this film. Inspite of being the holiday time there was a huge crowd on location at the VIT campus to see Vijay and Asin. The Vijay-Asin starrer Kavalkaran went on floors recently and shooting is going on in full swing in Karaikudi region in Tamil Nadu. Director Siddique has roped in several well-established actors and actresses to play important roles in the film. Earlier, Raj Kiran was signed up to play Asin’s dad in the film. The news now is that Roja will pair up with Raj Kiran to play the leading lady’s mom. This means, Raj Kiran and Roja will be Vijay’s parents-in-law in Kavalkaran.
