  Normally Shankar's movies are ought to make huge buzz in Telugu irrespective of the hero. But for  Snehithudu , the buzz is almost invisible. People aren't much interested in this movie it seems. Advance bookings are weak and it indicates that Snehithudu  might take slow start at the box office. Main reason for this disinterest in Telugu audience is 3 Idiots is a very big hit in AP and most of them have seen it. Vijay is not a crowd pulling star here and the audio is not up to the mark. Shankar doing a remake isn't exciting for Telugu audience as they want to see original films from the star filmmaker. In Tamil, Vijay's star power coupled with Shankar factor has worked for Nanban to draw huge collections in the first week.  Snehithudu  movie will have to fall back on Ileana to pull the masses to the theaters.  

Vijay's Shankar directed Nanban has been declared a super hit by the trade . As per trade sources the film has grossed approximately Rs 40 Crore in its first week (Jan 12 to 19). In Tamil Nadu it recorded almost 95 % opening in its first four days, which is extraordinary by any yardstick. The film opened in nearly 625 screens in Tamil Nadu in its first two days (Jan 12 &13) without any opposition . Nanban made merry and it helped the film to get the second biggest opening after Enthiran. By Pongal day, the film became steady at the box-office and the word-of-mouth started working to its advantage . Says Asick Meera of Mariyam Pictures who purchased the TK area: "Nanban is running packed houses in 33 release stations and there is no drop so far. The launch of new hot villains from Bollywood is creating huge sensation in Kollywood. Having rocked with his onscreen debut film Force (a remake of Tamil movie Kaakha Kaakha), Vidyut Jammwal makes his debut in Tamil film industry through the movie 'Billa-2' starring Ajith Kumar in lead role. Much before the film would hit screens, the actor has gained another prestigious offer and that's about locking horns with Ilayathalapathy Vijay in his upcoming film 'Thuppakki'. A.R. Murugadoss is far-famed for introducing some of the best villains in his films that is evident with Pradeep Rawat in Ghajini and John in Ezham Arivu Awestruck with the best performance of Vidyut, he has been signed for this film, which is touted to be a crime thriller.  

Nanban The cast and the crew of the film "Nanban" have expressed their gratitude and thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, AIADMK for offering the government's support to meaningful movies. Several newspaper advertisements yesterday had a photograph of the Chief Minister and with lines expressing the gratitude to the team. Nanban, directed by Shankar has Vijay, Ileana, Jeeva and Srikanth in the lead roles including others such as Sathyan, Sathyaraj, Anuya and SJ Surya. This is the first movie to have been granted entertainment tax waiver which is 30%, after the AIADMK came to power. It may be recalled that entertainment tax was initiated by Karunanidhi. The whole crew thanked this gesture of the government and said "The Chief Minister has always been supporting meaningful movies. We thank her on behalf of everyone who had worked for Nanban."  

Last week, actor Vijay visited the localities and people badly affected by the recent 'Thane' storm which hit the coastal belt of Tamil Nadu damaging properties worth crores of rupees in the U.T. of Puducherry. Storms are a rare phenomenon in Tamil Nadu but the change appears to be changing of late. The State Government's relief and rehabilitation and disaster management departments are working overtime to ensure that the relief material including food, clothing and shelter provided by the Government are reached to the affected people in Cuddalore. However, there are some who criticize the government for not doing 'enough' relief work to mitigate the sufferings of the poor. Vijay visited Cuddalore recently with the office-bearers of his fans' club in the U.T. Harris Jayaraj, the music composer for the film who worked with Vijay in his last release "Nanban" in which the songs are already a chartbuster, is trying to re-create the magic again, now with the international star in his team.
